Dr. Kalypso Iordanou

Dr Kalypso Iordanou is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the Thinking Lab. She received several awards for her research work including the Cyprus Research Award Young Researcher 2015 (IPE AWARDS 2015 – Kalypso Iordanous – Social Sciences & Humanities Winner – YouTube) from the Research Promotion Foundation. In 2017 she worked as a Visiting Faculty at Columbia University (USA), having received a Fulbright award. Her work has been funded by the European Commission, the Research and Innovation Foundation – (Excellence Hubs), and the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Athina Manoli, Postdoctoral Researcher

Athina completed a PhD in Psychology and MSc in Clinical Psychology at the University of Southampton, and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Leicester. Her research involves the examination of cognitive, emotional and social factors related to mental health disorders. She is currently working on the Are-Pred project, examining using the eye-tracking students’ reasoning.

Christos Zenios, Graduate Student

Christos graduated with a BSc in Psychology from Coventry University in 2011 and an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Derby in 2015. He is working towards completing his PhD in Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire, under the direction of Dr. Iordanou. His research project is about the implementation of dialogic argumentation for the prevention of cyber-bullying/victimisation.

Elena Papageorgiou, Researcher

Elena received her BSc in Psychology and MSc in Forensic Psychology from university of Central Lancashire Cyprus, and an MSc in Research Methods in Psychology from the University of Nottingham. She is an enthusiast for learning and expanding her knowledge in the field of psychology and her future goal is to pursue a PhD in Psychology.  She is currently working on several projects in the TheThinkingLab, particularly the PRO-ME-TOM project exploring teachers’ and students’ metacognitive skills.

Francesca Crudele, Visiting Graduate Research Fellow

Francesca is a visiting PhD student in the Thinking Lab. She is a PhD student in Pedagogical Science at the University of Padua, working with Professor Raffaghelli on the use of argument maps to support increased text comprehension, argumentative skills and critical thinking in new media contexts. She is now working with Prof Kalypso Iordanou in designing a research study and enriching her doctoral research project.

Maura de Vos, Researcher

Maura is on track to graduate with a degree in Psychology in July 2023. Her research work centers on exploring the perceived trustworthiness of journalistic practices among laypeople. In particular, she is investigating the impact of mentioning the revising and editing process of an article on journalists’ trustworthiness.

Faith Sonia Wambui Wanyoike, Researcher

Faith is on track to graduate with a BSc in Psychology from University of Central Lanchashire, Cyprus in 2023. She is interested in social and organisational psychology. She is currently examining communication in social media platforms that are related with YouTube videos on the topic of Climate Change.

Smrithi Muraleedharan, Research Assistant-Undergraduate Student

Smrithi is a 3rd year Psychology Student at UCLAN Cyprus. She is currently working on a project with Dr. Iordanou where she aims to analyze the extent to which collaborative learning takes place on social media platforms like YouTube.

Elizaveta Zelmanova, Research Assistant-Undergraduate Student

Elizaveta a first-year student majoring in psychology. She is currently working for a research project, investigating argumentation skills in social media. She has also been a child caregiver for several years, through which she experienced taking care of children with Cerebral Palsy. This was an inspiring journey which sparked my passion in various fields of psychology and helped her grow as a person and develop skills she would not have acquired otherwise.

Christodoulos Monogios, Researcher

Christodoulos has received his BA in Psychology and his MA in Forensic Psychology from UCLan Cyprus. He is interested mainly on concepts of contemplative neuroscience and at UCLan Cyprus he collaborates with research projects relating to conspiracies, metacognition and Green Psychology. He is part of the BtheChange and SMIDGE projects, in the lab.
